Just Add Snow

Eagle River is well known as a destination for snowmobiling.  In fact, it is registered as the “The Snowmobile Capital of the World” since 1964.  Eagle River has five snowmobile clubs who make sure that over 600 miles of snowmobile trails stay in great condition for riders by grooming daily.  These snowmobile trails weave through Vilas and Oneida Counties, the Nicolet National Forest and around 2,400 lakes.

Here at the Hiawatha Lodge we love catering to our snowmobiling guests.  In fact, we are located right on the trail!  The amenities we can offer snowmobilers  who stay with us include a very spacious parking lot for parking your trailer, power to plug your machine in during the end of the day, a garage to keep snowmobiles in if inclement weather would occur. Another unique amenity we can offer is an event center with a 9×16 foot screen to watch your GoPro footage from the day.  We also offer rooms with access to the parking lot so can head out from your doorstep

Need A Ride?..

In the event that you need a snowmobile there a few choices for you to choose from! The Toy Shop is a local rental business located in Eagle River that offers snowmobiles and snow gear for your trip.  They also service snowmobiles if you would need assistance with your machine

while you are staying up here.  Another rental business to get a snowmobile from is Trackside, located right across from the Derby in Eagle River. They are conveniently located right on the trail. If you are more interested in a touring service Have Sled Will Travel is a great option.  This guide service will accommodate many different group sizes and rider experience.  The guide, Fred is a certified snowmobile safety instructor and has over 40 years of experience riding in this area.

A Must See…

A must see stop while snowmobiling in Eagle River is the ice castle, which has been changing in design every year since it was first built in 1927.  Many volunteers and area firefighters lead the effort and put in 700 hours to cut around 3,000 ice blocks from the local silver lake and haul them into place.  Trail #13 passes right by the ice castle, adding winter fun to your snowmobile adventure.

Grab A Bite Along the Way…

Another favorite ride for many of our guests, as well as locals is taking a trip up to Conover, also located on trail #13.  The scenery is beautiful and the trails are always well groomed.  While riding up to Conover you will go past an old horse stable.  If you get hungry during your trip up to Conover we recommend stopping at Club 45!  Whether you enjoy Chicago-style deep dish or thin crust pizza, Club 45 serves them both so everyone wins!  Club 45 also serves juicy burgers with a side of cheese curds, fries or homemade potato chips.

If you are in search of another recommendation for a great ride and pit stop for food head over to Sayner on Trail #10.  If you are looking for a great place to eat in Sayner, look no further than Vinchi’s Hillside. Vinchi’s truly has something on the menu for everyone.  To start off your meal try their wings or wonton mozzarella sticks that have a great crunch and an ooey, gooey cheese center! If you are looking for great pizza, this is your place! Other great dishes served is their homemade lasagna and pasta which includes a one of a kind soup and salad bar.  If you are looking for a destination for Friday night fish fry then look no further!  The Friday night special at Vinchi’s is the Fisherman’s platter which includes cod, shrimp and salad bar.

Happy exploring this winter! See you on the trails!
