The Scenic Drives, Rides and Fly-by’s of Northern Wisconsin

We can’t deny it, Fall is one of our favorite seasons here in Eagle River! All the sites, smells and special events make this season one that we always look forward to come the end of summer. We want to make sure you enjoy this season as much as we do by sharing some of our favorite places including colorful scenic drives, tours and the best times to see the most colorful trees!

Scenic Drives & Detours in  Vilas County

If you thought the only way to see the colorful trees of the Northwoods was to drive down the road, you have only scratched the surface! Vilas County is known for its amazing back roads and County Highways that lead you through some of the most beautiful color combinations, you won’t be able to look away! But your car doesn’t have to be the only way to enjoy these woods. You may want to get that bike or motorcycle back out and go for a spin down one of these scenic drives so you can not only take in all the beautiful sites of fall but also the smell of the seasons changing! Fall River Tours and Airplane Rides

If biking is not your preference, take a boat out on the river or tour the Chain o’ Lakes. You will find the most colorful trees along with eagles overhead and loons nearby, as well as some beautiful Northwoods boathouses with a wonderful history! Or perhaps you wanted to try a scenic airplane ride this summer but never got the time to do so. This is the perfect time to take that flight over Eagle River that you have always wanted! See the colors blend together to create a beautiful collage. It is an experience that will make your time in the Northwoods this fall unforgettable! Hiking Trails in the Woods

And we can’t brush past one of the easiest ways to enjoy fall. Enjoy a peaceful walk through a National Forest and take it all in on your time. Anvil Lake Trail is a great place to do just that. Just a short drive from Eagle River, this another great spot to watch the trees change color and watch the wildlife that comes along your path. Bond Falls in  is another iconic place that should be visited in every season, especially during the fall!!

 

 

Northwoods Train Tours

Then last but certainly not least, we can’t forget one of the most special ways to take in the fall colors! Take a ride through history and the Northwoods on the Lumberjack Steam Train in Laona, WI. They provide such a fun experience that all ages will enjoy riding the train and spending time at the museum, candy shop, pumpkin patch, and more! About an hour drive southeast of Eagle River, this a great place to enjoy a beautiful fall day the whole family will remember!

Now that you have a list of all the place you want to go during these fall months, you will need to know the best time to visit these options we have given you! The Vilas County and DNR have great resources to track the peak season of our Northwoods trees changing for each county, as well as a MAP  to keep you updated as the leaves change. Travel through Wisconsin’s Northwoods counties at the perfect time this fall and watch the leaves change!
